Beach Season is HERE!

After an uneventful winter and staying in quarantine for most of this past year, I think I can speak for all of us when I say we are MORE than ready to get out of the house and have some fun in the sun. And what better way to enjoy the hot weather than with new bathingsuits and bikinis that can show off your body in all the right ways! Read on as we have the ultimate guide to help you find the perfect (and affordable!) swimsuit for your body just in time for Summer vacation.

Your Body, Your Swimsuit Style

    Pear Shape

If you’re curvier at the hips and thighs and proportionally smaller on top, then picking out the right swimsuit is all about finding the right balance. Try on a bathingsuit that draws attention to the neckline or fills out your upper bust area so that your overall body shape appears more proportional. Match this style with a skirted bottom for a winning look!

  • Small Bust

For those of you who are smaller on top, this means you can get away with choosing a swimsuit that offers less support and minimal coverage. Two piece bathingsuits with ruffles, embellished details, halter top necklines and padded push up tops can provide the illusion of a curvier upper figure. Classic bikinis or bandeau sets can help you look your best whether at the beach or at a pool party.

    Large Bust

On the contrary, if your upper bust area requires more support, go for underwire or molded cup tops. We recommend picking out a bathingsuit with thicker, adjustable straps while avoiding ruffles or a bold neckline that calls attention to your fuller bust area. Swimsuits that offer a bra type sizing and a higher back is great for extra support.

  • Tummy Control

No worries if you’re concerned about having a little tummy pooch and want to hide your midsection without looking too covered up at the beach. Given the different styles of one piece bathingsuits that are out there, rocking a one piece can look just as chic! A ruched style can help create the appearance of a flatter tummy.

You can also try a strapless one piece for those of you who want to show off a little bit more skin.

If you have a fuller bust, hips, thighs and butt, wear a bathingsuit that helps to highlight your curves. It’s important to choose something that offers more support and coverage but can also show off your body. Asymmetrical styles and retro suits with a higher waistline and halter tops are just the right cutting to help you do that. Be proud of your body and flaunt those curves!

  • Athletic

For those of you who are athletes or simply have a more athletic build, look for bathingsuits that play up your curves and figure. Wearing bold prints, ruffles and a smaller swimsuit bottom can create the appearance of a curvier silouhette. Look for monokinis, cut-out one pieces or swimsuits with a more feminine cutting.

As anyone who is on the petite side knows, it’s easy to get covered up in extra fabric or let clothes overwhelm your body shape. This also applies to beachwear. Be sure to choose styles that don’t swallow up your smaller frame. Select styles that have less coverage and a higher leg cutting to elongate your legs and create a longer torso area.

  • Pregnant

Let’s face it. We often overlook this very important group of women, but every expectant mom deserves to look adorable and feel just as amazing as any of us at the beach. Comfort is key. Finding a swimsuit that allows you to relax and doesn’t confine the midsection is crucial. Tankinis or two piece bathingsuits are most comfortable and especially convenient for using the restroom.

Additional Factors To Consider:

Although your body type plays an integral part in choosing which swimsuit style best works for you, there’s actually other components you may need to account for before heading out for your next swimsuit shopping spree.

Unlike the name suggests, swimsuits are for more than just swimming. Each swimsuit has a different function for activities such as tanning, water sports or even just hanging out at the pool. It’s safe to say that certain swimsuits are more suitable for certain activities than others. For example, bikinis are great for tanning as it has less coverage. Go for anything strapless if you’re going for minimal tanlines, and definitely don’t choose cut-out swimsuits if you plan on getting an even tan. On the other hand, water sports require more movement, so it’s a good idea to choose something that’s more sturdy like a one piece or a tankini with thicker straps to hold everything in place while you’re moving around.

Another factor to consider is the type of occasion you’re wearing it to. For beach or pool parties, select bold pieces and unique cuttings that allow you to show off your style. If you want to look extra fashionable, you can even layer a sarong over your swimsuit bottom. You’ll most likely be taking tons of pictures to put on social media, so you can pick styles that are more daring and eye catching. You can even color coordinate or choose a specific bathingsuit theme if you’re going with a group of friends. However, if you plan on doing a little beach volleyball, running around on the beach or swimming in the pool, choose a sporty swimsuit style that allows you the freedom to be active.

Are you heading to the beach, pool or tropical resort for your next getaway? Let’s not kid ourselves. All three of these locations call for playing in the sun and water, but different locations have different dress codes that’s deemed as more appropriate. Depending on how fancy or casual your place or theme is, take this into consideration when packing your swimsuit apparel. Tip to remember: It’s best to stay classic and classy if you’re going to a high-end resort.

Print & Color

Although your swimsuit type and cutting are essential, the color and print is equally important to choosing the right swimsuit for you. While neutral colors exemplify a classic vibe, bold colors and prints can show off your personality. Busier prints may highlight and draw attention to the area you want others to notice. In addition, a unique print can enhance the features of a swimsuit style and look good in photos. You can also choose to wear the latest color or print themes to look extra trendy. Wearing the right bathingsuit style is the first step in looking your best, but choosing a print that no one else has or that people can spot from a mile away can boost your swimsuit from good to EXTRAORDINARY!

Given all these factors to consider and the hundreds of swimsuit styles to choose from, picking out the ultimate swimsuit doesn’t seem like an easy feat. Hopefully, we’ve given you enough information and ideas to help guide you in the right direction. The only criteria that essentially matters is choosing a style that represents YOU. Select bathingsuits that you feel confident wearing even if it doesn’t necessarily conform to the rules set out by the guidelines. At the end of the day, your confidence is that extra layer of skin that can make or break any piece of bathingsuit. Feel like a million bucks even if your swimsuit doesn’t cost just as much!
